How to be an Adventurer
You don't need to quit your job or leave everything behind to become an adventurer. While some social media personalities and celebrities get paid to travel and explore, there's a good chance you won't, at least not at the start. If you have a passion for being outside, exploring both the known and unknown, and eager to push your limits, then it's time to turn off the T.V. and start planning your adventure!
Adventures Aren't Just for Indiana Jones.
An 'Adventure' is whatever you make it out to be. It could be an oceanside hike, a winter camping weekend, or a desert expedition. Whether with friends, family, or alone, don't hold back!
Adventurers Unite! But First... Let's Cover the Basics:
Don't Get Lost!
Before embarking on your next adventure, prepare yourself with more than just your smartphone. Pack a compass, a map, and a GPS. Yes... Your phone might be the all-in-one solution, but if you lose signal, break your device, or your phone decides to go from 50% battery life to 5% in 15 minutes, you will want to have a backup plan!
Stay Hydrated & Fuel Yourself
Pack lots of water! There's nothing worse than cutting your trip short due to dizziness and dehydration. Equipping yourself with several liters of water can get heavy, and if you're planning on using water bottles, it can take up a lot of room in your backpack. Items like hydration packs are an excellent addition to your adventure gear lineup. Also, be sure to pack enough calorie-rich snacks and food to keep your body fueled for whatever elements you're planning to conquer!
Know Your Limits
If you're planning your first big adventure, keep your objectives realistic. Hiking up a mountain for 50 km might lead to a stunning view but it could break you on the way up. Start small and take the time to map out your trip. And remember, no matter the scale of the journey, if you need to stop and turn back, that's okay! Listen to your body. Turning back does not mean failure.
The Master List
You might be an expert packer who can find the most effective way to pack 75 items in a backpack, yet still, leave without your toothbrush. While in the adventure planning phase, create a master checklist. It's extremely easy to do and can save you a lot of trouble!
It's Time to Become an Adventurer!
Take the time to properly plan out your trips with your own limitations and goals in mind. The world extends past your backyard, so get out there and explore!
